Early 1900s Bendelow was a Prolific Course Designer with over 600 courses designed – he is often described as the “Johnny Appleseed” of golf course design. He is the architect behind many famous courses – among the most notable are all three courses at Medinah Country Club, the East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, and French Lick Resort. The club maintained a rustic clubhouse in those early days, expanding and remodeling the building many times over the years. The club also added tennis courts and a swimming pool to meet the growing needs of its membership. Kishwaukee Country Club expanded its membership and reputation throughout the 20th century.

1963 The Club Chose David Gill to create plans for an additional nine holes on 75 acres of land that was leased and then eventually purchased. Today, the club has 18 beautiful and challenging holes of golf. Holes 1-7, 17 and 18 comprise the original nine, with holes 8-16 the “new” nine. With the addition of the new land, the club expanded to a total of 180 acres with 22 acres of that consisting of fairways and 3 acres of greens and tees. The course features tree-lined, narrow fairways with strategically placed bunkers and modestly sized greens. Water hazards can be found on numerous holes with the Kishwaukee River and a creek flowing through the course. With changes in the weather and wind direction, the course provides plenty of variety and a continuous challenge to our members and their guests. The course requires accuracy off the tee and demands precise approach shots and strong short-game skills.

Mid 1980's Underwent Redesign and Renovation The work included the construction of new tees, new bunkers, and the addition of contours across the property. A few years later, the short par-4 17th hole was moved, redesigned, and lengthened. The club began restoring bunkers in 2002, using original blueprints whenever possible to capture the original design intent. The club has ample practice facilities, including a driving range and putting green. The club also maintains a short game practice facility, which allows players to develop their shot making skills from inside 75-yards. Throughout its history, Kishwaukee County Club has hosted numerous tournaments, including the Illinois Senior Open, collegiate tournaments, U.S. Open qualifying for both men and women, Lincoln Highway tournaments for men and women, high school regional and sectional tournaments, interclub leagues and more.
